Creating an impact for climate governance

The Institute of Directors (IoD) is pleased to present the first Chapter Zero New Zealand impact report for the inaugural year of the initiative.

Chapter Zero New Zealand was established in 2022 by the IoD to respond to the growing concerns of directors about the devastating impacts of climate change facing their boards, organisations and wider society.

It is part of the global Climate Governance Initiative (CGI) which brings together organisations from 57 countries and represents more than 100,000 directors worldwide.

By aligning with international best practice and developing relationships with a range of local experts, Chapter Zero NZ is able to respond to this concern by providing directors with a range of practical tools, resources, events and a community of peers to share knowledge and experience.

Our impact through supporting and upskilling directors to improve climate governance will be vital to the success of New Zealand’s climate response. We empower individual directors to learn and influence the decision making of their boards. Those boards are then empowered to make good climate decisions on behalf of their organisations. The outcome is a strong, climate-resilient and net zero economy in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This first impact report is an opportunity to reflect on our shared progress in the first 12 months, to celebrate the successes but also to identify the areas where we can enhance our impact.
