With the release of the government’s Emissions Reduction Plan today, the nation now has a pathway to support our climate ambitions toward 2050.

Across this plan, the government and business community will need to work in partnership to ensure the effectiveness of every sector in contributing towards this shared goal.

The cross-party support shown last week for the first emissions budget demonstrates this collaboration and now businesses will need to play their part to support the orderly transition.

Achieving our national targets will require significant mobilisation of the director community – equipped with the skills and knowledge required to make informed ‘climate-smart’ decisions at every board table.

This is why the IoD is proud to host Chapter Zero New Zealand, as the national arm of the global Climate Governance Initiative.

Chapter Zero NZ offers a community of peers, a network of directors who are facing similar questions across the full breadth of industries. Through the sharing of information, knowledge and experience, directors can better prepare themselves, their boards and their companies for the challenges and opportunities of climate change.

Only through collaboration will we be able to achieve our ambition for a prosperous and sustainable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.
